Good Stead Farm is Midland County's first Certified Organic vegetable and livestock farm! 2018 will be our fourth year in production. On a little over 8 acres, we grow over 100 varieties of nearly 45 different vegetables as well as herbs and cut flowers. We also breed and raise 100% grass-fed lamb as well as pastured chickens and ducks for eggs. Our production practices prioritize a diverse, resilient and vigorous farm system. Minimal tillage is favored which means the work tends to require more labor but is skill and efficiency minded. Urbandale Farm and the Lansing Urban Farm Project are now in the process of recruiting for their 2018 apprenticeship program. This is a 6-month, hands-on program of training in urban agriculture. Apprentices will learn how to raise and market a wide variety of vegetables, flowers and herbs within an urban enviroment.

This year we are looking for 3-4 individuals who already have a little farming experience, but who want to further develop their skills and farm in an urban setting.  A small stipend will be available to each of the apprentices selected.
